TREATMENT OF SINUSITIS
Acute sinusitis is usually treated with medications. Antibiotics and nasal sprays help reduce mucosal swelling, fight the infection, and relieve the blockage in the sinus openings. Medications should always be used under a doctor’s recommendation and supervision.
Chronic sinusitis, on the other hand, often requires surgical treatment. If symptoms such as nasal congestion, postnasal drip, and headaches persist for more than six months, a thorough examination and a sinus CT scan are used to determine the underlying causes. Surgical intervention is then planned accordingly.
SINUS SURGERY
If there is an underlying anatomical abnormality contributing to sinusitis, surgery may be necessary. These causes may include allergies, septal deviation, enlarged turbinates, or nasal polyps. Surgery is rarely required for acute sinusitis, but in chronic cases, it is often the most effective option.
Sinus surgery is performed endoscopically, through the nostrils, without any external incisions. This modern approach results in a minimally invasive, more comfortable, and less intimidating experience for the patient. Recovery is faster, and pain is typically minimal or absent.
